I bought a 2005-S Silver Oregon Statehood Washington Quarter PR69DCAM from a dealer (PCGS cert. #74086815. The certificate verification says this coin is not in the database. I've written to PCGS at least 4 times to try and find out why. I even received an email from a customer service representative on Feb 23 that the cert would be in the database within 48 hours. Well, today is March 5 and the cert. is still NOT in database. What am I supposed to do? I've even contacted the dealer to ask for a refund but have not had any success on that yet either.
Anybody run into this problem before? How do you get it fixed?

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Why do you think the dealer should even consider a refund?

Because the certificate verification does not work. Duh!
According to the PCGS Certification Database, certification number 74086815 is defined as the following:
COIN INFORMATION
Date, mintmark: 2005-S
Denomination: 25C
Variety: Oregon - Silver
Pedigree:
Country: USA
Grade: PR69DC
<< <i>Now that PCGS has fixed the problem, I don't need a refund from the dealer. >>
"I don't want this coin because I don't need it" that I can understand.
"I need this coin but I don't want THIS coin because I want it in a better condition" that I can understand.
"I need this coin and it is in the condition I want, but I don't want it because the price is too high" I can understand.
"I need this coin, it's in the condition I want, the price is right, but I don't want it because it isn't in the right plastic holder" I find difficult to understand.
But
"I need this coin, it's in the condition I want, the price is right, AND it's in the right holder, but I don't want it because its certificate number isn't in someone elses database" I just don't get that at all. Buying coins just because of the grade number on the holder was stange enough but basing your purchase decisions on the serial number on the holder???
I sometime wonder if I am the last coin collector who actually cares about the coin. I think you could probably get a good price for a coin on ebay without even showing it. Just a good picture of the PCGS label of a high grade specimen.

Very true and does happen.
Having said, I think that when a new collector discovers one of their coins so-affected for the first time it creates a lot of anxiety. I know it did for me.
