A cool Buffalo nickel

I really like this coin, the textured fields in the reverse especially. Held to the light, every little turn exposes a neat new dimension. It's a first-year issue and common date, and not a bad place for the aspiring collector to start out.

Is it the lighting angle or is that coin hammered?
  • Looks like it may be a proof?

Very nice coin I especially like the die crack on the obverse.

This is what a 100% fully struck Buff SHOULD look like.
  • Very nice!

I agree that the textured fields look great and surely hope that the $50 Gold Buffalo
coming out later this year will have a similar look!

    So was I, Shamika.

The rim an that coin looks awful broad and squared-off.

But, this date is very easily confused with proof coins, a whole lot of them are
    really hammered.

All coins from this date, if really in doubt, should be submitted for authentication.

Guy, if you're reading this, you may want to send this one in, and if it isn't a proof, you got yourself a nice, holdered, high grade coin.

Added after some thought.........1913 T1 Buffs are SATIN, or more to the point, MATTE Proofs.

They should have a grainy, sandblasted type look to them. The tip-off on your coin not being a proof might be that it is TOO refelective and shiney.

I'll buy and you don't need to sent it anywhere but to me.
That buff is leaps and bounds better than the one I have.

The more I look at this coin, the more I'm convinced it's a proof.

Guy, any chance the buyer has submitted the coin? Has a TPG weighed in yet?

After seeing this and several other Buffalo's over the last few months. I am starting to think this should be the next series I collect. The choice examples are fantastic to look at. image
