I'm sorry, but I do not have any information on the nickels, but I would like to welcome you to these boards. There is a lot of great information here.

try VarietyNickels.com or search for the same at Google. ANACS has boatloads of Jefferson OMM's in their holders and most are insignificant and very minor. if you come across one that's very wide where the vertical bar of one "D" is seen clearly within the loop of the other, that might command a premium from a collector. otherwise, they'll probably sell close to sheet/average price unless they have more going for them such as high grade or attractive tone.

The RPM book lists "7" different RPM's for the '44-D. Can you provide additional information?

The prices listed are all similar at around $12 in MS-60 so probably there are no rarities here.

You might want to try the CONECA site for more info.

  • Even though this double mintmark isn't listed as a major variety, and isn't even mentioned in some of the larger reference books, it has been listed as a variety in Spadone's Variety And Oddities book since it came out in about 1969.
Personnaly, I have never searched for this double mintmark, but.... if I had a slabbed 67, I'd sit tight with it.
  • Well there ya go! The guys in the know have spoken! And I wish I had waited for another minute. I wouldn't have stuck my useless 5 cents in. lol
  • I see 14 different RPM's for this date, any other info? Where is the 2nd D, North, south east west, a combo, etc.

The cover and first four pages are missing from my 1st edition spadone but I believe it was 1963. There's
    no 44-D/D listed in nickels.

I wonder how important this book was to promoting collecting of varieties &/ or errors.

  • The earliest Spadone I have (that I found rumaging around tonight) that is complete is the 6th edition from MCMLXXIV. Is that 1974? I just assumed that he printed them each year. That's where I got the "about 1969" from. It has the doubled mintmark variety listed, along with the doubled LIBERTY variety.
