Ebay seller question...do the rules of ebay allow this?????

StorkStork Posts: 5,206 ✭✭✭✭✭
Linkage

specifically...

"Do to the rapid fluctuation in the price of gold.
All payments sent by mail must be "postmarked" by the following business day.
All payments using "Paypal" must be "paid" by the following business day,

If payments are not on time as described above there will be a $5.00 Late fee for every day late.
So, Please pay on time to advoid late fees

Once full payments have been made and cleared, (including any late payment fees, then your package will be mailed out ASAP!"

First of all... the price of gold has no bearing on what price you have gotten when the electronic hammer falls. The price is agreed upon at that exact moment, so assesing a 'late fee' based on the unrelated change in the price of gold is ludicrous. I can only imagine it would play a part if the transaction were not completed and the price falls, thus causing a monetary damage.

Plus, do ebay rules allow for the unilateral assesment of 'late fees' which could never be contested effectively? I can see it now...."No, really, the postmark was 2 days later--oops, sorry I threw out the envelope so you'll just have to take my word for it and send me another $10. Of course, that just tacked on another day, so add $5 more".

Seems like a crock!

What is that link again for ebay complaints??? I'd love to see what they say about this one...other than the usual nothing.

I AGREE WITH YOU COMPLETELY, STORK. Couldn't have said it better myself. The price of gold or beans in china has no bearing on a price agreed on for a coin!!!!

Wow, what a deal... Pay me NOW or pay me later, but pay me more if you pay me later image

    I like it !

...not sure there is any validity in his rules, but they are funny. Anyone who buys from him needs an examination.... and I am not talking rectal, or is that where their head is located ?

and it's five bucks per day, late charges ? image.... this guy needs his own toll bridge or parking lot !

If he actually OWNED the gold at the time he listed it he would only need to get more than he paid for it. Looks like he is selling the stuff and then goin out to buy stuff to fill the orders. Not sure if eBay has rules against charging late fees, but I think that you have to give the buyer a reasonable time to pay.

  • While I have to agree with stork in principle, why would you bid on an item if you did not have the resources to pay immediately????image

    I went with semi-polite...

"Regarding the late fees, I am not sure a fee structure such as this is allowed by ebay. How would this process allow a contested fee to be challenged?"

And, I agree with Ksteelheader...you only bid if you can pay...I just disagree with his method of enforcement and the uncontestable nature of it. And the fact I think it's totally against the rules. And that the reasoning behind it is completely ridiculous imageimageimage.

Does he rebate you $5/day if the price of gold goes down?
