  • Matt...sorry that you've been sucked in by the eternal loser Coach K....as a Tarheel Grad...what a SWEET GAME to see JJ lose on Senior night is priceless....at least JJ and Sheldon will have a job in 2 years after they bust (like 99% of K's kids) as an ASSistant coach for Dook...

sorry about having to rough it in the HoJo...was lucky that my room in Avery had A/C...Grimes was a great spot for you...hardly no walk/roll out of bed for classes...

    BA Poli Sci and History.
Hinton James wasn't that bad--my best college friends to this day were met there because we were almost isolated down there on South campus. Plus, being on the hill looking down at the Dean Dome--whenever it was time to line up for basketball tickets, I could just look out my suite door to see how long the line was, and get down there in 3 minutes when it counted.

Grimes was cool though, because we were the first ones in after they renovated it during the 87/88 year. Everything (carpets, paint, bathrooms) was clean and brand new again.

  • ah the days of camping out...I went to my old roomates house to watch the game, we were talking about camping out for tix...we used to sell about half of the ones we got to a guy in our suite for 25-50 bucks a ticket (money was money back then) and how we used to sell our plasma at Sera-Tec for $35/week (2 times) for beer money....really don't miss Chapel Hill that much (like to visit every couple of years though and catch a few games, although Heels hoops tix are nearly impossible/too much $$$ to spend to make it worth going, but I usually can trade for FB tix....

One night when camping out for UVa tix, there was ice forming inside of our tent, but a fifth of JD and our girlfriends in the tent allowed us not to even think about it....what was so stupid was camping out on Saturday night and getting your number at 6 am only to have to come back at 6 pm for the actual ticket...why not go ahead and give us the ticket at 6 am?

One good thing about Avery was going to FB games as we could roll out of bed, be at Kenan in 3 minutes (didn't even need a ticket, just activity card) and being able to sneak a pint of liquor into the games....my roomie had to pour out a pint of Maker's one game and was about to cry imageimageimage

Sandman, I would hardly call coach k an eternal loser. In fact he is far from it. His "record" speaks for itself.

Winningest active coach in NCAA Tournament play with 66 wins and ranks First all-time in most NCAA Tournament wins
Among active coaches ranks first in most NCAA Final Four appearances with 10.
Named National Coach of the Year ten times in 7 seasons. 1986-UPI and Chevrolet; 1989-Naismith (National Coach of the Year); 1991-NABC; 1992-Sporting News and Naismith; 1997-Basketball Times; 1999-NABC and Naismith; 2000-Chevrolet.
Ranks second in most ACC career wins (250)
Named ACC Coach of the Year five times (1984, 1986, 1997, 1999, 2000)

Funny you asked. We had a freeze a few weeks back and it really knocked back alot of the growth on my yard. In the fall, down here in Florida we cut bi-weekly. So obviously the grass keeps growing pretty much year round. Anyway it is just now recovering from the frost and I cut it yesterday for the first time in a month. I let it go awhile because after a freeze or heavy foot traffic its good to let it recover.

  • i heard that...during the hot summers up here...i cut twice a week at the highest level, but i do water alot, and it is green as can be....with the lines and no fungus from watering. i did have a little crabgrass problem last year though!!!
  • lawnmowermanlawnmowerman Posts: 19,477 ✭✭✭✭
Do you guys get dollar weed aka pennywort up there? If you over water down here it takes over the yard.

    matt
  • i believe i got the crabgrass problem from filling in some settlement last spring(house is only 3 years old)...i planted some seed and it took over about say not quite a quarter of the yard...but i'm pickey!!! do you recomend any particular seed??? i like the rebels(tall fescue), but unfortunatly when i seeded last year i had the black beauty from jonathon green, and it apparently SUCKED!!!!
  • lawnmowermanlawnmowerman Posts: 19,477 ✭✭✭✭
We are in two different zones. The most common grass down here is Saint Augustine, which is a coarse, thick growing grass. Some varietys will be more cold tolarent then others. I love how it looks but people from up north usually hate it. I am not to sure whats good for your area.

    Matt
  • tall fescue is drought tolerant....only way to go up here, but some peole like the kentucky bluegrass which i thinks sucks because it is to high maintenance....i do love some of my local golf courses with the bermuda in the summertime!!!! i would love to have that
  • lawnmowermanlawnmowerman Posts: 19,477 ✭✭✭✭
Bermuda down here is an un-treatable weed very problematic throughout Saint Augustine turf. It is good stuff though. Very durable and when maintained it is great to look at.

Hey, no sweat off my balls. I'll trade an NCAA championship for a rebuilding year or two any day of the week.

I actually had UNC losing in this round in both my brackets (albeit to Mich St) and Duke losing their next game to LSU.
