I have a few rolls of "war nickels" as they are commonly referred to. I was searching for the 43P "overdate"or "doubled eye" variety when I came across this :

See the 4 ? Any knowledgeable numismatist or error expert out there who can explain this ?

Thanks Ken, you are likely correct and it is nothing I should buy champagne for , I guess image.... Darnit, anyway.... I should have thought a little harder. That probably is the case. A gouge !

Possibly a planchet lamination peeling up. Note the other laminations on the coin.
