A treat for Michael ... and a thank you to Mr. Blay!

I could only hope pictures would accurately reflect a MONSTER coin, but alas pictures still do not do this coin justice. I need to work on the color because the pictures don't show the true red of the coin.

1909 PR67RD

For the date, it is a pop 5/1 coin.
For the MPL series, it is a 21/3 coin.

These kinds of coins are what dreams are made of!

    Doug,
Am I correct that the obverse shows the two diagnostics of the VDB version, meaning this coin was struck from the same obverse die that was used on the 1909VDB Matte proof before it?

Hey Steve! What took you so long? Not only is it the same obverse die, but the same reverse die as well -- just sans "VDB." The die chip is there, and so are the two polishing lines under the left wheat ear next to the rim!!

    Good call!

    Now where is Michael....

Maybe I'll take some micro photos tomorrow. However, you can clearly see that the light die gouge is on both the VDB and the plain. You can also see faint remnants of the ground off VDB on the plain too.

Interesting, the non VDB coin looks to be an earlier die state. But I thought that the VDB's were first and then the plains because of the uproar. The die gouge must have been on the master die and the VDB was removed from it?

Beautiful coin!! PCGS does not hand out 67's very often. That is a keeper for sure.
