I went to pick up my AG03 1916-D Dime--But Didn't Get It..

Last week at a local show. A local dealer showed me a nice looking AG03 1916-D. I asked him to hold it in the store and I would get it on Saturday. So I went to get it and took a look through my glass. The coin was very nice and he was giving me a great price. I opened the package in from of him and found solder on the rim. It looked as if it had a riim dent that someone filled in with silver solder. I am disapppinted as I am sure the dealer is. image He told me it was okay if I didn't take the coin, and not to worry about it. It is nice to see the great attitued of this local dealer.image

I bet he knew it was there and he was sorry that you didn't buy it. Dealers don't stay in business by being dumb.

I'm glad everyone assumes crookedness where there is no actual proof of such image

Maybe the coin was bought in the holder wholesale from another dealer that this guy trusted? Maybe some one else along the line was the crooked one, not this dealer... try not to jump to conclusions... yes, dealers are business people, but not all of them are ruthless or unethical in their business practices...

the facts are : You didn't buy junk cuz you have a keen eye. Your dealer obviously is sharp enough to realize if he is going to pass off a lemon, he will need a more unsuspecting or less educated buyer.

You don't think he will send it to ANACS for their assessment, do you ? image

At the price he was going to sell the coin to me, the solder on the rim, would not have changed the price. There is even a good chance he can sell it for more than he offered it to me. I don't think it was a rip-off even with the solder. The dealer had two at the show, and I selected looked better, but, agian, even with the solder the price was right.

In that case, you have a good relationship built on trust and for that reason, I commend you for the open minded approach and I am sure your dealer is a decent person , too. Some of us go through life just dreaming of getting ONE and this guy has TWO ? sheeesh. image

They typically go for 500 to over 600 on ebay. Sometimes even more depending on how they look.

Man, I didn't realize they went that high. I have one in my album. Do you mind telling me the diagnostics? I probably need to check it and see if it is a real one.

Sounds like a good dealer to me,he didn't try to 'guilt' you into taking the coin after he held it

for a week.Definately a guy I would go back to.I saw 2 ANACS AG03 1916d Mercs. at the local Orlando show

    today,both marked right around $500. if I remember correctly.image
