A few coins

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,454 ✭✭✭✭✭
This first coin is unusual in that both sides of the coin are toned. The Cased Dollars are usually found toned only on one side.

The second one is fairly scarce. It is a British 1958 Halfpenny that is a VIP proof. Probably my most favorite coin.

How do you tell whether a coin is a proof as opposed to a regular strike on world coins? Nice coins, by the way. -Dan

The same way you tell US coins are proof or business strike. image

Just like US coins. Usually sharp edges and such. Also, the look of the coin. And when in doubt, a TPG. image

I used to have another 1958 1/2d Proof but someone else has it now. image

I love that 1/2d. Do they even list that in any of the catalogs?

What does the first one grade on ajaan's toning scale? Remember, I also have a two sided toner from you, an 8.5 out of 10 if I recall correctly. image

    Great photos.

I like the reds and golds better than the all blues, so I would give it a 7 on my toning scale. But, it you like the blue color then it is a 9.5.

Not that I know of. I contacted the Royal Mint when I first bought the coin asking for a mintage. They couldn't give me an answer.
