No matter what, I always have to submit 2 sets of SHQ's to build a set of 5 PR69DCAM's in my Registr

At least this time they threw in a 70

  • The mint has refined the craft to the point where you have to wonder "whats the point"

Pops on smoe of these in 70 are gonna get to the level where all you have are Widgets !

69's will be crap widgets and 8's will be un sellable at any price

That's exactly why I buy them on Ebay. You can typically get them below our submission cost.

The occasional 70 is not worth the aggravation to me.

That's exactly why I'm collecting the high end 69's.

I'm not so sure I agree with you on the 70's statement though. PCGS will never let 70DCAMS get too abundant...it would kill the market for them. I know someone who just submitted 1000+ proof SQ's and 8 came back as 70DCAM's. That's less than 1%.

Relayer...I am a big fan of ND, SD & CO designs this year. I have no idea if the designs respresent the states well...but I really think they hit the nail on the head with all of them. I just received mine a couple of days ago...photos taken while coins were in slabs so you'll have to bear with the occasional glares and lense reflections...

Lucy called me a wuss for buying them on eBay, so I had to make my own silver set. I agree it's cheaper to buy from a bulk submitter though.

I sold off my other 70's so my Registry Set is all 69's.

Even though I'm happy to get the 70, I'll list it on eBay as well - hopefully it will pay for my set image

I agree. A lot of people submit these hoping to hit the jackpot and get a 70. And therefore there are a lot of 69s worth less than the cost to slab them. This is where the value is.

I believe a similar example would be MS-64 Ikes. The real money is in 65 and up, and when people fail to get their 65 they cut their losses short and dump the coin below the cost of slabbing.

    ellewood,
Can you help me understand this? For the life of me, I don't see how you could differentiate one PS69DC from another. Once it's in the slab, what do you do to determine that it is high end?

Not being critical - just trying to learn if there is a good grading tip for 69 proofs

All other things being equal - degree of frost. There are some PR69DCAMs that are so thick, and so stunning that they reach out and grab you by the nads. But, there are many others that shouldn't even be designated DCAM. The problem is that with the ultra moderns, the DCAM designation is automatic whether the coin really deserves it or not.

  • Less than 1% as 70 DCAMS of 1000 coins ? OK

How about 57 Lincolns in 68 CAM ?

    1,247,942 minted and a POP of 10

    1,247.94 would be 1 %

    124.79 is .10 %

    10 is less than .08 %

    Blade -

There is a HUGE difference in quality..and I have learned that the hard way over the years. There are many PR69DCAM coins out there that have haze, spots and are lacking true cameo contrast. I bought up some proof SQ sets quickly on eBay and TT a year or two ago and thought I had nice coins. That is until I purchased some hand-picked sets by a few dealers here on the boards that are known for picking out the best. I unloaded every single one of the average coins...and started over. Now I only buy from certain people because I KNOW the quality will be there.

I'm not sure what your point is with the above lincoln pop facts? Yes, I would agree that a 57 68CAM lincoln is much rarer when you look at the pop of that particular coin. I never said that the 70DCAMs are rare...I just said that I don't believe PCGS will make it easier to land them!
