world series way to look at the P and S 1839-1908 Liberty Half eagle series.

The registry set for 1839-1908 Liberty half eagles is weighted.
Some coins are harder to get, therefore have a higher weight.

An asterisk means I have it for my collection, so notice the spread.

From now on I should try to get examples without a motto with
a weight higher than or equal to 7.

For the motto examples, I should strive for coins weighted higher
than 6.

Mint state coins with a weight of 1 or 2 is YAWN territory I
should stay away from. A weight of 4 or 5 though, and they
become oh so hard to get for a sane price.

What do you think of this data?

I think you should collect for yourself and not the registry. The goal of a highly ranked registry set, while a worthwile pursuit, should not overtly affect how you collect coins. Collect the nicest examples of each date without as much concern with registry rankings or "weight", and more concern with the actual rarity, value, and your subjective opinion of the coin. The registry will then take care of itself. I believe collecting for the registry is kind of like the tail wagging the dog, and leads to collecting mistakes. All my opinon, humbly offered....Mike

    fc,

Let's just remember that we are a very small crowd.image

Thank Gawd. And that 54-S with the 10. That's not a ten, PCGS just decided the ink to write the real weight wasn't worth wasting on us slubs. It should be 10 THOUSAND. Same with the 75. Call Lustig.

    BTW, you forgot the CC's.
    Have a nice day
