Had my first cracking party today!!!(Freed Busties inside)

The 1810 bustie arrived on Monday and my grandfather accidently misplaced the package so I did not know it came until we came upn the package mixed in with the ads. Well here she is is still sitting in her slab and also the 1812.



Here is a closeup of here still in here tomb.



The NGC slab was easy to crack but the PCGS did not crack exactly how I hoped it would but there was no damage to the coin.



And here they both are sitting happily in their album.



The 1810 is a very clean with very few scratches. There is only one major scratch at the base of the bust. I am very pleased with the look of her and I think I am off to a nice start on the album.

How'd you get that NGC to open like a door? I always have troubles with NGC. PCGS on the other hand I find super easy. Let me know what your secret is 'cause I'm cracking an NGC when I get home tonight

Did 3 NGC Reiver coins last night that were a pain in the arse. Tonight it's an AU Seated Half for the Dansco.

Yeah how did you do the NGC slab, mine usually are a royal pain and they wind up in little bits and pieces.

Are you two pulling my leg? All I did was wrap the slab in a towel and then used a spring clamp to hold the obverse and reverse together. I then hammered the slab on the two sides opposite each ther and then rotated the clamp 90 degrees and hammered the other two sides. It then popped right open after I removed the clamp and towel. I have a feeling you were both pulling my leg though.

No leg pullin' here man. I've never tried that. Always use the same pair of cutters on NGC that I use on PCGS. Usually makes for a mess. I'll try your method tonight

NGC is easy: Whack a long side with a hammer (using a solid surface) about 1/3 the way from a corner. Flip to the other long side and do the same thing. If the slab doesn't open like a book, repeat process near other corners.

I figured that was how everyone did the NGC. I have saw that method talked about mulitiple times in the slab craking threads so I figured that was how everyone did it.

Rich,

Use a hammer on your NGCs. Easy as pie! Set the slab on a hard surface, hold it on edge, and hit the label side firmly. Turn it over and repeat as needed.

Nice circ CBH's ya got there CA....................it looks to me like the PCGS F12 has a little more meat on her.

Thanks, Lawrence. The 1812 does have a little more meat then the 1810. I am thinking maybe they dropped the grade from a F15 because of the bigger hit that is exaclty in the center of the coin. The grade doesn't really matter though because they will both be equally appreciated in their new home.
