Toby: As you know, I often represent both consignors and potential purchasers of coins like this one, so it would be inappropriate for me to comment, especially while it is in the auction process.

Not knowing this business as well as some others, is there no conflict of interest when representing both consignors and potential purchasers like this?

It is very freshly graded and two were made at the same time; this one and cert #10009507.

    Mitch -

I completely understand (and respect) your position. I'm sure I'll hear plenty about it around this place after the auction has ended.

If all goes as planned, I should have a large package from you on my doorstep tonight. image If my wife left the house today at any point and I got the old "we tried to deliver but you weren't home" orange card from USPS...then she's in a world of trouble! It's a shame you didn't slip one of those 70's in my batch by accident. image

Bochiman: I would assume the potential is there. My comment did not mean to infer that I represent consignors and purchasers at the same time on the same coin.

Ok, thanks Mitch. I did read it as "at the same time on the same coin" in this instance, which is why I asked. Otherwise, different times/coins, I don't think it would be an issue.

But, as I said - no "threesomes".

How can that be a 70 if it has haze above the moon surface on both sides?

    ellewoodellewood Posts: 1,750
My guess is that what appears to be haze may very well be a reflection from the camera lense (as Jeremy stated earlier in the thread). That happens often when photographing proof coins. Like I said before, it's probably not right to make assumptions unless we could see the coin in hand. It may very well be a CLEAN coin that deserves the 70 grade!

Ellewood, you might be right but those coins typically have the problems in those exact spots. maybe it's fine at PCGS but I doubt NGC would 70 it.

I just find it surprising that someone would pay that kind of money for a coin...when there has got to be doubt in that person's mind if the coin is "clean" or not. One would think that the only way someone would "pull the trigger" on that coin is if they had physically seen the coin in person and they know something we don't (like that the haze really does not exist & that it was caused by lighting, etc.).

I have looked at it several times and boy does it look like haze. Lord I hope it is some sort of lighting/reflection like I get on some of my proof coinswhen I photograph them image

Another question I guess we should ask ourselves is why was it on TT and not at a bigger auction house like Heritage that would draw more potential buyers???
