How to dramatically increase your coin knowledge

World Series of Coin Trading...BIG BENEFIT!
Excuse the commercial...but I was thinking about this and it occured to me.
A lot of you want to increase your knowledge about coins...prices, rarity, market conditions, etc. Well here's what has happened to me lately and I think you'll find it interesting. I've been spending an incredible about of time in the last three months going over all the thousands of prices listed in the PCGS online price guide. Even though I've been a very active coin dealer for over 40 years...even though I've been doing price guide stuff for 30 years (in the late 1970s I used to write the entire issue of the weekly Coin Dealer Newsletter 6 or 7 times a year when the owner/editor was in England buying antiques...and in the early 80s pre-PCGS I used to publish a monthly price newsletter with my real bid and ask prices for thousands of coins)...And even though I've been to hundreds, maybe thousands of coin shows and auctions and seen tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of coins sell...the fact that I have been reviewing prices intensely for three months has added to my knoledge base...I think I know a little more now than I did three months ago. It's one of the great things about rare coins...there's always more to learn!
I guarantee that if you participate in the World Series of Coin Trading...and take a little time each week to think about coin prices, market trends, and real value...you are going to increase your rare coin knowledge and also increase your understanding of how the rare coin market works. It should not only be a lot of fun, it should also be a great learning experience.
And by the way, we're not doing this to encourage short terms trading. We're doing this because we thought all of you would have fun with this contest...and...we felt you'll learn a lot more about coins...and so will we...this contest actually forces us to pay attention to our online price guide and do the best job we can at making sure the prices are right.
Over 100 people signed up for the PCGS World Series of Coin Trading in the first 6 hours of the contest. If you haven't already signed up and spent your "million dollars" on rare coins, I think you should give it a try. Just as the contest forces us to think about our prices, the contest will "force" you to think about rare coins and rare coin prices, perhaps in a different way.
Anyway...just some thoughts I had about our coin trading contest.
Have fun with your coins..both the real ones you own and the fantasy coins you'd like to own.

For what it's worth, I like that only Club members are being allowed to play. It's a perk of paying the membership, and reduces the competition for the money!

That will be a great side affect of the contest (besides the $10k I'll get).
Thanks to you and CU for holding the contest
BTW - I had to renew my Collectors Club membership last month to play (and that caused me to send 100 coins into PCGS this month ), but some folk here are not participating because of the Collectors club membership fee required to enter. Just FYI

I got this theory ! Therefore, I'm right ! I've mulled over my thoughts and coins as I've watched the Price Guide Adjustments over the past few months.
Thanks Mr Hall.
just about every place I thought I would score, I was seeing a "GREEN" price tag. It's pretty clear how tough it is going to be to "GROW" this money.
now whatever you do, don't laugh at my portfolio. (it was the kid in the candy store thing) I ran outta money pretty quick, too
