SEGS slabs are notorious for that. You pretty much need a chain saw, a vise grip and a steady hand.

Definitely SEGS. That thing is a tank. I used the electric jigsaw on mine.

Typical, the ones that need it the most are the hardest to break!

No question - SEGS. All the others are easy in comparison.

SEGS does have a nice slab. You have to give them that.

  • I used to think the same, but I have cracked out many segs coins for cross overs & even up grades so I learned a better way. Put it in a vise use a flat edge screw driver hit it on the seam push the screw driver all the way in the slab remove from the vise it will be split in half & easy to remove the coin. I used to pound on the segs slab with a hammer many of times it wouldn't even crack just bounce off, like it was made off rubber. I have broken both PCGS & NGC slabs with just my hands many times but never a segs.
Most dealers Grading was new or used when I started & most still didn't get it right.
  • Hey Guys do you really need the secret of breaking slabs, last time I will give this info out. Get Recipercating saw, cut across top of slab, then get a 1/2 inches wood chisel and gently tap down on each side and wammo the coin is exposed like when your first girlfriend slid down your zipper for the first time. Hope this helps.

  • A 6" vise works better- gently crank the vise in and POP! goes the slabby.

SEGS holders can be difficult to break, but there is a secret way and it's quite simple.
