A Salute to a Legend (Bust coins inside)

CladiatorCladiator Posts: 18,065 ✭✭✭✭✭
This is a group of coins that I’ve managed to put together in the past couple of weeks with the help of some really great people. It’s my little way to honor a great numismatist who, unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting. At least I can take care of some of his little beauties for him. It may take a while for all the photos to load.

A special thanks go out to Dennis Tarrant, Gail Watson, Steve Tompkins, Steve Elwood and Rich Meaney.

Here they are about 30 minutes ago.

Here they are now. They will stay just like this until their custom holder is ready from CP.

Here they are individually:

1832 Capped Bust Quarter, small size; B-1 R-1, Very Fine

Interesting mix of grades. Were you trying to build a demonstrative "grading set" of 1832 bust coinage?

Thanks but a grading set wasn't a priority. Just getting the coins was the goal. Finances forced them to all be circulated. Even though the dime is so low grade it more than makes up for it with the reverse cud along the top two arrow heads and A. Now that I have them all I do like each of them being in a different grade level of circulation though.

Tease! I thought that this was going to be another Legend-bashing thread. imageimage
  • Nice set.... I like how NGC cut the letter "N" out of "collection" on the far right slab insert..... nice..image

Rich, your photos of the 1832 LM-11.2 are so much better than the JJ Teaparty photos! I look forward to seeing the set in the custom display!

Also, unless it is mere coincidence, you have a great pedigree on the quarter too. If the "Gutscher" that Mr. Reiver listed on his insert is Eric Gutscher, you have a coin formerly owned by the person who discovered the very rare die marriage 1830 LM-5/G-13/V-13. Makes your collection even sweeter!

RYK, I knew someone would be thinking that lol. Hey RYK I owe you thanks also for pointing me to Dennis for that dime, thank you!

Thanks for the comments folks. I'll post photos of the set once they are safe and sound in their Capital Plastics holder.

Edit: I noticed the name Gutscher and honestly didn't know who he was. I assumed it was the source of the coin for Jules but had no idea about the significance. An added bonus!

You'd be surprised. Yes they are pricy in high grade and with the rarities but the regular circulated pieces are quite affordable. (sshh don't tell anyone ok?)

    Thanks stman. image
