What Causes This On A Lincoln Cent?

Didn't notice this damage? on the Obverse of this Lincoln till I took some pic's and starting the cropping process.image Is this some sort of damage or what? Trying to learn something todayimage Appreciate any help provided.

    Am I supposed to be seeing something? I see some toning, at the high points, and a carbon spot.

    I have always wondered why some Lincolns tone like this.
    My first thought has been that it was touched by someones finger long ago.

    I've seen quite a few '50s Lincolns tone similarly, where the loose paper fold over cover for the mint set touched only the high points of the coin, the rest was protected by being sunken into the hole in the mint set. The colors are very close to what you see here, oftentimes. I have no idea what would cause such toning on a 1909, however.

    Looks like normal toning to me. Is it crusty? Does it look grainy?

    Looks like toning to me. Probably from the oils on someone's finger from a long time ago.
    Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
