So much for participating in the World Series...

Apparently I would have to buy a collector's club membership, even though I am a PCGS dealer, because I am not the principal at my firm. Bummer.

I thought it was a bit misleading the way some of the advertisements mentioned it was a free contest. You had to read pretty deeply to see that you had to have a paid subscription to a club to participate for "free."

Something like "at no extra cost to Collectors Club members" would have been better wording, IMO.

    Yeah, they got me!!! image

I see the word "free" to participate, but I can't, since I didn't pay for another membership this year. Misleading.

That sucks. I'm a paid member and didn't feel like doing it. Use my info. image
  • Maybe it was intended to reach out to newer collectors and keep you "experts" from running away with the contest image

Hmmm. OK - I broke down and shelled out $50 for the membership and now it won't let me sign on.

nothing in life is free kiddo

let me repeat that in case you did not get it the first time

nothing in life is free kiddo

they might say it is free but there is always a payment you got to pay to get this free thing

and in and of itself this is not good or bad just the way it is

  • michaelmichael Posts: 9,524 ✭✭
and actually if you join the collectors clue and get 8 free gradings for 200 and then you get some great gifts and the pop report actually they are not giving you this contest for free thwey are paying you to take it as you get lots more out of this membership and the quarterly free submmissions also

most all got some coins they can send in

also you might just win one of the prizes and even if you do not you just might lesarn something along the way coinwise that will make coins more fun and well how should i say this advantages for yourself

All you have to do is go to the PCGS.com website on March 1, or any time after that, and register to be a trader in the PCGS 2006 World Series of Coin Trading. You will receive your personalized, password protected, trading screen and you will be ready to begin trading and tracking your own million dollar rare coin portfolio. AND IT'S ABSOLUTELY FREE! There is no charge to enter the PCGS World Series of Coin Trading.

But what they don't tell you is that you have to pay between $50-$199 to join their "club" to be allowed to play for free. So in my opinion, it isn't absolutely free!! Pretty misleading statement above.

Wonder why you didn't post the complete paragraph.......it seems pretty clear to me.

I think the new Dungeons and Dragons Online site would be a more interesting and stimulating place to drop $50.

Yeah. I have my +6 vise grip and my +4 hacksaw at the ready. What do I have to roll on the 20-sided die to avoid damaging a coin I crack out?

Oh, and I have the Magic +8 gauntlets to protect my hands from injury in the process and the Goggles of Mirth to protect my eyes, so my armor class is very good in the process and I shouldn't be injured by shards of flying plastic.

Q: What percentage of dealers would you say are Chaotic Evil?

    (I swear I haven't played D&D since I was 10!!!)

I'd say only the scam artists are "evil." Plenty of goods and neutrals are chaotic, though.

I'm more into patterns and there is no PCGS price guide.....oh well. Hope the rest of you do well. image

Q: What percentage of dealers would you say are Chaotic Evil?

10%, but 40% are chaotic neutral and show you their good side enough so that you do not see or know about the evil side.

I didn't feel like shelling out $50.00 just to participate in something fun. I'd rather buy a nice coin with the $50. Besides, $50 is a lot to a 15 year-old image

Someone should convince PCGS to start a free YN version of the World Series - I'll bet Home Run Hall would do it in a heartbeat.

So much for participating in the World Series...

I think the same can be said for my old-time favorite baseball team, the Kansas City Royals. I live 175 miles from the stadium and they're so bad I can smell it from here.

    Oh... image

    wrong World Series.

The grading thing? It's fixed anyway, you have to match up with PCGS grading, and who knows what their standards are from day to day.
