Does Registry check for duplicates?

I was just wondering if the set registry checks for the same certified coin belonging to more than one person. I recently purchased several coins from an individual that shows 100% set complete but I bought at least two of those coins from him and they are now in my registry. I also notice that the other individual has opted to not allow people to view his set. So will his set remain at 100% even though I am now the owner of those coins and have them in my registry.image

A coin can not be in two active registeries, but can be in a retired set and an active set.

Some collectors will sell duplicate coins which won't affect their current sets. You may have aquired such
coins from your seller. His set remains the same and his duplicates will be entered into your set.

  • How can you tell if a set is retired or active? His is listed as "Current Finest" list image

  • I believe all sets in current finest are active sets. If you locate a set in all time finest, that is not in current
finest, this set is retired. Click on a retired set and PCGS experts will note the set is retired and the year
    it was retired.

That is not exactly right. It can not be in two active registries with two different owners.

A single owner can register a single coin in multiple Registry sets. For example a coin can be registered in a basic set and a set with varieties.

RegistryNut is likely correct saying that it could be a dupe that he sold you.
I know that I have some dupes (same coin/grade/etc) in my sets and may be willing to sell a couple (wouldn't diminish my sets at all and may help others).

However, one of them may be "higher end" for the given grade or toned. So, if the person got a toned version they like better (or one with less hits in a major area), then they may have decided to sell any dupes.

Also correct that the cert number cannot be in 2 different people's reg sets at the same time. If that same cert were active in someone else's registry, you would get an error when you went to add it. Trust me, has happened to me more than once.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
