So what does everybody think about TIE games being allowed? To me, its the latest signal of the huge FARCE that this is. Not to mention the drop outs that are still happening. Maybe my mind will change when the games begin but this is looking dumb dumb dumb
THERE ARE NO TIES IN BASEBALL !!! AFTER 14 INNINGS OR 2,000 INNINGS, THERE ARE NO TIES I can hear Tom Hanks screaming now. ........
There's no Tieing in baseball

As for football, I have an unusual idea that I like. I would like to see all the teams have 16 games and 10 bye-weeks. Football season would last 6 months plus the playoffs which is about the same as baseball. It would allow your favorite players more time to recouperate from minor injuries. The only problem there is that people would be breaking established records since they would be playing more games over a career. But, I'm ok with that. Football for 7+ months would be great.

No its not. Not even close. Sure the powers that be TRY to ruin the game but baseball as far as a fan base goes is MORE healthy than it was 50 years ago. Go back and look at attendance numbers from the 1950's. You will be shocked. Baseball has MANY MANY legs left.

<< <i>Baseball has become way too commercialized.

yeah, that kind of MODERN commercialism is completely unheard of!

EXACTLY.........attendance is much higher than it has ever been......and manofsteele is also dead on. Look at any ballpark from the 50's and 60's and chances are there are far more advertisements then as there are today.

Here's a good example: I used to live in Phoenix and I would attend D-backs sometimes. When they called in a relief pitcher a big sign came up that said "Nextel call to the bullpen" followed by the announcer saying it. What does a long distance company have to do with a relief pitcher except to completely pimp out a childhood game. I now live near Cleveland and I haven't been to an Indians game yet but, if it's the same way, I won't go. I'm a big fan of capatalism but I've had enough. Dropping $150 to attend a ball game only to have this crap thrown in your face so that Arod can have a private jet is just too much for me.

Ummmm OK. So you tell me where ANY events are held without commercial glut. Don't pin this on baseball man. Its EVERYWHERE. And you can drop the same 150 bucks on basketball, hockey, football, bla bla bla bla bla.

Minor league baseball is getting as big as it ever was as well. Their big selling point is fan relations, whether its having mascots, bringing the kids out on the field between innings, givaways, etc. They are what is wholesome and good about the game....BUT, every time you see the kiddies out on the field between the 2nd & 3rd inning running the bases for a prize, isnt that prize or contest sponsored by someone too ? Maybe it is Mighty Casey's Lumber yard, or Chico's Bail Bonds, but they are still hawking something. The only difference is there is no jumbotron, lasers, etc to do flair it up like in the bigs.
Baseball is no more commercialized than anything else. Football may be even worse. When was the last time anyone saw more than 4 or 5 plays without having to see some guys mother hawking chunky soup ? It is all what it is, I cant afford too many games either in person, so I watch it at home and deal, but whatever the problem, it certainly isnt just baseball.

Everything today is sponsored by something or someone - you would think by going to the ballpark and not watching on TV you would be spared somewhat. Not the case.
You want commercialism personified? Listen (I know it will drive you nuts, but try it just for a minute) to a Yankees game on their NY station WCBS. Everything, and I do mean everything, that is mentioned - is the "official _____ of the New York Yankees". They even mention this type of thing inbetween pitches, let alone inbetween innings. It's like listening to a 3 hour advertising marathon.
