My 1st submission - ANACS grades back

My grandfather left me a few gold coins, that were raw and I was always told they were basically bullion. I decided to submit them to ANACS to get an idea of their quality. I also had a Peace Dollar I bought off eBay in a NuMistrust holder...

CoinDate CMint CDenom GradeDesc
1925 $1 MS 63
1909 D $5 EF 45
1904 $20 MS 64
1904 $20 MS 64
1900 $20 MS 62
1915 S $20 MS 62
1928 $20 MS 62

I'm interested in knowing from people if I should send a subset of those to PCGS. I had been told by a dealer that they were all circulated coins, so I didn't expect to see the 2 MS64. I think the 1900, 1915-S, and 1928 $20 and the 1909-D $5 will probably go on eBay, unless I hear advice to the contrary here.

Wow, great submission. The double eagles in MS-64 are a great score, especially if you were told they were circulated. Ebay would be my choice if you wanted to sell them. I would keep at least one of them as a rememberance of my grandfather, if I were you.

    Congratulations!

Thanks - I might do just that. You don't think I should send them to PCGS for confirmatory grade?

Nice Grades -- the coins are worth much more than bullion, especially the MS64's!

I hope the world sees this. All those people who are wondering what do I do, sell them raw to my local dealer or send their better coins to be graded?

I've said this before and I'll say it again, most coin dealers come from the same gene pool as child molestors.

Of course the dealer told you they were circulated. He wanted to buy them from you.

    He wanted to rip them.

Given how extremely hot generic gold coins are right now, I think the cost and time of sending them to PCGS would be just... time and cost.

Sell them on eBay as is and I think you'll do just fine.
    When in doubt, don't.

Long way from being circulated, except one. I'd steer clear of that so called "dealer". If you are wanting to sell, you mIght try the BST. It'd save you some $ on the ebay fees.

Congratulations on the grades. You were the smart one by not taking the "dealers" word on their grades. ANACS holders are just fine,I'd leave them in that holder.

NICE results... sad story, and it seems that stories like that need to be told.

    Thanks guys!

This dealer will never see me again. Good thing I wasn't in a hurry.

WAY above bullion. Keep the nicest and sell the rest if you must, however, Id keep em all and keep em in Anacs slabs if you dont need the money.

BULLION ? who told you that ? He is not a dealer that told you that ... unless you took them to a car dealer.

Bullion ? from the early nineteen hundreds ? Geeze ---------- OUT THIS GUY ! He sounds like a thief, not a coin dealer.

basically bullion ? I've heard it all now.

resubmit them all to PCGS, in my opinion.

Sorry - I was told that they were basically bullion by my father and grand-p'. The dealer didn't say that - in fact, he said specifically that they had some value over bullion. He did say that they were all circulated though.

Dealer was either (A) trying to rip you or (B) not knowledge about gold and didn't want to tell you that so that (A) he could rip you image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

See if that dealer has some other AU coins that look like MS64's. Maybe he'd even sell them at AU prices......FAT CHANCE......One Dealer to stay away from.

That's funny because I just got a 1950 Franklin back from ANACS that graded MS-63 FBL that a local PCGS dealer said was "AU at best with just average bell lines". I sent it in because I thought it was 64 FBL but I should have dipped it first and got a 63 insteadimage

How come you just didn't send them to PCGS in the first place ? They aren't the BIG BAD WOLF.

I think everyone is afraid to lose submission money because of PCGS's inconsistent grading andor awarding grades only to PQ coins in certain categories. I just spent 2 days looking at various PCGS certified modern Lincolns graded 66 and 67 at Heritage and Teletrade and it has my wallet scared to death to send anything in to them! Half of the 66's look like 67.5's and half look like 66PQ's. For us working folk this is a tough decision because things can get mighty expensive if they pop a 66.5 coin with a 65 tag.

I do not think that ANACS-slabbed $20 Libs in MS-64 will sell for PCGS MS-64 money, but they will sell for 63 money. If you really think that they are MS-64, send them to PCGS, as there is a significant price jump between MS-63 and MS-64. If you think that they are low-end for the grade MS-64 and/or not likely to cross to PCGS, leave and sell them as is.
