Morgan variety help 1880-S is it a VAM?

I have 2 PCGS MS-64 1880-S morgans. Both have the typical near PL frosted look, with some bag marks.

They have 2 different types of S mint marks a fat S and a Thinner S ,

My uncertified MS- 64+ (65?) 1881-S has the Fatter S.

Both the 80 and 81 fatter S coins have more of a PL look to them.

Is there any Difference in value to the two mint marks, or was the change close enough to the middle of the run to make them comparable?

Any thoughts on E-bay value for each?

( I am not sure if it makes sense to even submit the raw coin or re-submit the 64+ 1880 -Best case MS-65 DMPL, worst case MS-64

Does PCGS have PL or is it just DMPL or nothing?

Thanks in advance

Edited to add VAM to title to spur response?

  • If I'm reading the VAM book right, there were two S mint marks used in 1880. Type IV medium rounded S with pointed serifs; type VI very large S with thick center shaft and top and bottom strokes at tips. Don't think they have a difference in value. There are R-2 (rarity factor) coins with either mint mark. There are some overdates for 1880-S you should check for on the coins.
1881-S only used the type IV mint mark.

Quote from the VAM book for the 1880-S Morgans-
"There are two size mint marks but both are common and do not bring any premium.".
