Autistic Basketball Player - Y'all Have To See This!

This is awesome. I got chills watching this. This is truly a good story among all the scandals, steroids, and junk in sports.

Watch the video at the top right of the screen.

Autistic boy scores 20 points

  • I think I read somewhere that the kid missed his first two shots and then rattled off his next 7--they said the last shot--the two pointer--would've been a three except he stepped on the line. And all in 4 minutes
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

I'm from Rochester NY where this game happened. It's been in all the news around here....great to hear a good stuff like that. He's been interviewed on all the stations....guess Disney has even contacted him and there might be a movie. He is autistic...guess he didn't even speak til he was 6 years old!!! Very cool!!

My fiance works in a school district with young autistic children, as well as an agency that handles their care one on one after school hours. Although this kid was extremely high functioning and not the typical child she works with, we watched the highlights and story and both had tears seeping out. Congrats to him and the entire community who supported and cheered him on !

    what a great performance...

Autism seems to have a very wide range in terms of a child's ability to function and communicate and certain Pervasive Developmental Disorders Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) have found a way to be classified within the Austistic spectrum. There are several compelling issues associated not just with autism, but neurological connections, motor planning and the brain's ability to function. There are issues associated with apraxia that effects motor planning and speech development.

The sad reality is that this area is misunderstood and worthy of so much more attention than it currently receives.

I grew up in a family that took care of mentally disabled children. Most of them were my 'brothers' and 'sisters' and some of them were autistic. This story definitely brought a tear to my eye because I know what kind of effort it takes for some autistic children to just communicate with the world. And, this young man was able to take it to another level and not just compete, but excel at playing basketball. What a great moment!

That's a great story, great video too.

Looks like the whole place was going wild everytime he scored...the cheerleaders from the opposing team looked as excited as everyone else.

I just saw the SportsCenter story. That is unreal! What a great story and it seems as though the team really embraced this kid. Not like the truth I've heard about Rudy. They freakin hated him.

Saw that on tv and it brought a tear my eye. Then I hear they are not playing him anymore during the playoffs??? Why not, they could at least use him as a deception.

I was not there so maybe I should not say anything, but I will say there are somethings that are more important than winning... and it seems someone forgot that... WHICH IS ALITTLE DISAPPOINTING

The article said that he cannot play in sectionals because he only suited for one regular season game.

Awesome story, it brought a tear to my eye as well.

I did not see or read the article and I should have thought of that but did not... I am not editing my last post because it would be wrong, but I stand corrected...

  • Guess I am a softy because each time I see this story I get choked up.
