newbie questions

This is my first post, but I've read many threads here. Some of the pictures and scans of your coins are amazing.

The PCGS services depend of the coin value and the value depends on the grade, but you are sending the coin to PCGS to be graded, so do you just take your best guess at the grade when submitting?

coins under 300 bucks are x amount

most folks round here say if ya guess wrong and get a happy gram they wont ding ya !

  • that's the general idea - you guess at the grade and they either agree or don't

Glad to have you throw in your 2cents. Welcome to the fun.
And if you think everyone here is a good coin grader, you are new. That is why there is a PCGS.

  • Welcome!

In the old days before PCGS the seller and the buyer would have to agree on the grade and price. Now we get a 3'rd party opinion by paying PCGS for their opinion. Naturally people who are good at grading understand what to expect from PCGS so are more successful when sending coins in for certification.

Hello pthompso. We're happy to have you here. Lots of valuable info is posted on this forum. Just duck when you come across a thread that is nothing but pettiness/BS.image
