What are your favorite eBay searches?

I know many of you guard your eBay searches like they were national secrets, so I'm not asking for exact searches (although that would be cool). Just give some examples of how you grab some of the good stuff. I'll start with a real search I use. The following search is used to find football hall of famer cards that have both a jersey swatch and an auto on the card:

(aikman, bradshaw, elway, marino, montana, staubach, unitas, "steve young", largent, "lyn* swan*", "walter payton", "barry sanders") (fabric, fabrics, patch, clr, color, colors, clrs, jrsy) (auto*, sig*) -lot -photo -no -uda -pack* -coa -litho -"8x10" -"8.5x11" -print

For those of you who don't know, terms in between () and separated by commas are treated as or so the above would read (aikman or bradshaw or ...) AND (fabric or fabrics) AND (auto* [this will get auto, autograph, autographed, etc] or sig* [this gets sign, signature, signed, etc]) then not anything like lot or photo.

Feel free to change the names, etc. I'm fairly new to the message board, but thought this would be a cool topic. How do you find the diamonds in the rough or make sure you don't miss your favorite player.

    gstarling...

First let me start by saying image to the boards.

That's a pretty intense search. My searches are not as specific mostly the player name plus name of set and minus a few key words that filters out some of the junk.

That is a wild search. I didn't realize you could do all of that. I'll have to come up with my own.

Generally, every other day or so, I search : 1955 PSA -(bowman) in football.

Cool topic!! Like I said, I didn't know a search could be so refined.

    BTW

  • I didn't know searches could be so refined either.

I just use a standard, 197* Topps "psa 8" for 1970's topps basketball for example.

Is there a tutorial on advanced search techniques? Thanks.

I have 82 favorite searches.. not going to go through all of them. Most of them are for deceased hockey hofer autographs though.

I search for plante and sawchuk every single day twice a day.. nothing really in particular just looking and if something catches my eye I'll bid.

Oh and I search for Grant Fuhr PSA 10's every day as well.

  • Thanks for the welcomes. You can do some really great searches on eBay. Also, a must have tool is Pluck for IE (the Firefox version doesn't do persistent eBay searches). I guess I'm just a newb trying to get accepted into the group giving away all my secrets image.

With Pluck, you can set up a persistent eBay search that will store results for you. Basically, with my search above, I'll come home from work, pull up Pluck and see there are 4 new items that match my search criteria. This is a great way to snap up a buy it now that is too low, or to really cut down on the eBay work. Say there are 20 eBay searches you constantly run. Set them up in Pluck, come home check your searches, use the time you've saved to scan your cards, thumb through your collection, or think up new searches.

  • quotes return exact results. "Barry Sanders" only returns results that have Barry Sanders in the title together. With no quotes, you could come up with something like Summer Sanders sings about her love for Barry. Hope that makes sense.
