Complaint About PSA's Order Status Check

I sent in a 53-card Registry Special ($5/card) submission a while ago, and decided to call up PSA Customer Service to see at which step in the overall grading process my cards are currently at.

I was very disappointed to learn that, according to the woman I spoke to, their computers no longer specify this bit of information.

It's bad enough that you can't get specifics on your submission on their website, but I was always able to find out this piece of info from a Customer Service Rep, so that I could get an idea of when my grades would be posted.

Until now.

What gives, PSA?

EDIT: Does anyone know, approximately, how long a $5 Registry Special takes?

My November 05 $5 special grades popped on February 8th. My current $5 special appeared 02/10/06 . Nothing yet as of today, but other people have already received their grades being received on 02/14 and grades popping days later. Honestly i don't care anymore.
  • Yes, this is one of my biggest complaints about the overall laziness of PSA and, specifically, the fact that they are letting their CS reps get away with it - in fact, PSA is supporting their laziness and rudeness.

To answer your question, you can probably expect the special to have its grades posted in 4-100 business days (seriously).

We should all check at the exact same time and crash their server. That will teach them.

Ha! Yea, that would show 'em.

If BGS hadn't been going to hell in the past months, our complaints might fall on something rather than deaf ears.

It's been my observation that the more diverse your submission was, the longer it will take. Again, just an observation... but most of the posts we've seen that have been popped in a few days were larger lots of the same-year/brand cards. I took advantage of a good thing and sent in must players, of mult sports, with mult years... so I will have to wait longer. At $5 card, it's a heck of deal... but the anxiety of waiting is slow death, I can deff. atest to that!

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

  • unless you are grading to flip them, not sure waiting three months is worth saving less than $10 per card. I don't have that kind of patience.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

It's not so much the patience as it is lack of Customer Service from PSA. My normal order arrived on 02/10, and i have seen three subs posted on the boards that were received on 02/14 under the same special. This makes no sense, hence i don't care anymore and will just keep taking it in the arse from PSA like everyone here.

I swear to God-- what were you guys like as kids during Christmas? They'll be done when they're done.

Am I the only one who's ordered at a restaraunt before the table next to me, only to see the other table get their food first? Some orders take longer than others. Deal with it.
  • Jaypers, I called last week to find out status, and they told me it was in the process of being graded and sure enough next day the grades popped. It may have been the person you talked to was new, had a bad day, or they decided not to give updates any longer. 91 cards for a player set. Received 01/06 Posted 02/24.

For Boopotts-- You might have missed this part of what i wrote----I don't care anymore....I don't call 50 times a day, i don't access this website 50 times a day checking to see if the grades have posted. When i get the slip in the mail or the notification via e-mail from PSA then i will check them. It's kind of like PSA WITHOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!

A word for the wise. Never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never,

make a mistake on your shipment sheet. PSA will not call or email to inform you there is a problem. Due to poor math skills and dyslexia my last two subs had mistakes and I had to call only to find out they were in the "Problem Bin". My sub was at PSA for 2 weeks before I called to find out what the heck was going on. I resolved the problem then they were put in process. So... Make sure everything is correct on you shipping sheet before sending it in.

Just out of curiosity, do you get treated any better if you own PSA stock?

I don't have any problem at all with people being enthusiastic or excited about getting their grades-- don't get me wrong. And I'm not even trying to call out Carew29. My only point is that whining and moaning about wanting to see one's grades is a) puerile, b) irritating, and c) maybe counterproductive (If I was in charge of organizing the orders and I read some of what's posted on these boards I'd single out certain orders and let 'em wait until the next Ice Age before they got graded).

Anybody who's ever run a business, or for that matter ever been involved in the production end of a business, should well know that there's no such thing as 'first in, first out'. It just isn't feasible. When I worked through college as a sales rep for a large residential roofing company we'd do certain jobs two days after we sold them, while others would have been waiting four or five weeks. Why? Because certain crews could handle certain jobs, etc. etc. Every business I've ever been a part of operates this way.

You know that guy in McDonalds who complains because his french fries aren't sizzling hot when they hit his tray? I don't like that guy. You know the guy who clogs up the customer service desk at Target because the shelving unit he bought was missing two wood screws? I don't like that guy either. Some issues that a customer has with a business are completely legitimate, and the business needs to address those fairly. But a lot of the rest of it is just sniveling, and there's something embarrassing about watching grown men snivel and pout.

I don't know. But you'll probably be happy to know that I received my grades for a small submission tonight that was logged in about a week and a half ago.

One last thing. Anytime I put up a snotty post like the my first one in this thread you can insult me all you want and you don't have to 'qualify' it (heh heh). Whenever I decide to come off as a jerk like I did in that first post I have no problem being treated as such.

I agree with you Boo. And I don't call in actually. I do check the site.

I also don't berrate PSA when I say I want my grades either. I know how it works and I also think that calling in 100 times is very counter productive.

But to play devil's advocate for a second. I have(and I counted tonight) 230 cards from 60-71 that I was intending on submitting. I didn't because I have too much money tied up in the cards they still haven't graded. For a regular submitter I do think that it is not a good business practice to keep them waiting. Their goal obviously is to make money. They just cost themselves $1600+ on me not being able to submit my cards due to their turnaround. I know what you are going to say, I will still submit the cards at a later date. True, but the faster they grade my cards the more cards I will submit which means the more money for them.

But I digress. I understand that there is little to nothing I can do to expidite the process which is why I don't call.

Something I find ironic is that if you bought a card from someone on eBay and they stated that often times the sending out time varies. And just because you won an auction before someone else does not mean you will get your card first. Somehow people have a different expctation on eBay. Just some perspective.

Sounds fair Boo. However i bet you did not tell the people that were waiting 5 weeks that you would start the job in 2. I also bet you did not sell them the job on the 1st, promise them you would be there in 2 weeks, then without a phone call explaining a delay, claim later that you were there not on the 1st like the contract states but on the 14th and just like that moved the work order up 2 weeks. This is what many of these guys are saying.

    Good for you.

I don't follow you Steve. My understanding is that PSA says they'll have the cards graded in 'x' amount of time. If they are graded in that time frame-- which is all you have a right to expect-- then you don't have a complaint IMO.

I downloaded a submission form about 10 pm on Sunday night. I download another one about 11 pm on Monday night. They were 589962 and 590074. In a 24 hour period, there were 112 submission forms downloaded. Granted, since it is the end of the month, this is a busy time for submissions, but it sort of gave me an understanding of why my submissions take so long when I procrastinate to send in my cards on the last day of a special.

    Just an observation.
