currency: what is so important about a serial #?
so the first 4 numbers are mirrored by the last 4 numbers?
repeating sequence? all same number?
why should there be a premium for a chance sequence of numbers? I've never understood it-can someone explain?

<< <i>For the record, I think that all the same number and really low numbers are pretty cool. >>
So do I. A few years ago, at one of the Baltimore shows, I poked through the exhibit area. One of the coolest exhibits was a currency setup with different serial number arrangements on $1 FRNs. All looked BEP fresh and crisp with different combinations and sequences of serial numbers. I think the focus on serial numbers is best appeciated in this kind of context...seeing it all together.
My icon IS my coin. It is a gem 1949 FBL Franklin.
There is one collector who wants all currency that has serial numbers ending in 25.
Why? who knows? It means something to them.
The name is LEE!

These sets have grown to over 50 notes in each set. It is just something interesting to do. I still add to these sets as they become available, but I would sell any/all of the sets.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
