Name a fairly common coin that you don't own. It could be anything, modern or not. For example I don't own a single peace dollar.

Well . . . perhaps a Stone Mountain . . . one of 4 left for me in the 50 pc. Commem set. Fairly common, but I can't seem to find the one I like. But . . . some wouldn't call that common. I do though . . .
Now if we talk about uncommon stuff, I could really hold court!

However, strangely enough, I don't think I've ever owned a half cent, in any grade. I've picked up a large cent here and there, but I've never actively collected the early coppers and somehow the "little half-sisters" have escaped my collection.
I've also never owned an 1879 Flowing Hair Stella -- "common" for the series!

I don't own a U.S. gold coin either, but I do own a Mexican 2 Peso gold coin, 1945 I think.

Here a better break down for me.
Any of the Barber series, Walking liberty half, Standing liberty, v- nickel, peace dollar, trade dollar, Indian head cent, or Mercury dime.
Anything older than any of those listed, I haven't ever owned either.
I do own an 1852 3 cent peice, which happens to be my oldest coin in my collection, with an 1882 S Morgan as the runner up
I need one for my Dansco 7070 in AU but I haven't found one at the local coin shop I go to. I could find one on eBay if I would commit myself to looking. It seems like everytime I do look I just can't seem to find one I like for a decent price.

The 1950-D nickel was a good item to point out - don't have one of those either.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
2. 1943 Steel cent. Can't find one that grades G4 or less....
If I had it my way, stupidity would be painful!

In hi mint state, its a real sucker coin that seems to prove the "bigger fool" theory is alive and well in the coin biz.
