New 1923 Peace VAM? Opinions please......
I picked this up out of a roll a bought on ebay. I spoke of this in a previous thread. This 1923 Peace is unusual and I can not find an ID for it in any reference. Any help would be appreciated. The front of the neck has a spike gouge. The back of the neck has a gouge as well that runs into the hair. The reverse has a gouge (3 piece) in the field next to the olive branch. Ideas?

That's the result of a die clash, not a gouge.
The characteristic of the spike at the front of the neck leads me to immediately suspect it's a VAM 11. The evidence of die clash and the severe die filing on the top of the eagle's right shoulder could make the coin a sub-catagory of the VAM 11. Since one does not yet exist, you might very well have a discovery piece there.
11 II 1 · B2i (Doubled Middle Olive Leaves) I-2 R-5
Obverse II 1– A short horizontal tick is at upper front of neck.
Reverse B2i– Slightly doubled middle olive leaves on lower side, back of two rear leg feathers and left side of three rays above ONE.
Check the olive leaves closely. I'll be they look a little like this....
