Old NGC slab...1899 IHC Opinions

I've had this Indian Head Cent for awhile and remember a thread about the old (NGC 3?) NGC slabs. I was about to crack it to put the coin in my 7070, but vaguely remember someone saying these slabs carry a premium. Do they? If so, I think it would make more sense to leave it alone. The coin is accurately graded IMO and is a nice mellow red.

i vote to leave it in the unique looking slab that intrigues me
as a buyer.

I like the old slabs. You see fewer and fewer of them as people crack them out. I think they are collectable in their own right and a part of the history of coin collecting.

Crack it. Common date and will look terrific in your album. Keep the insert if you ever decide to sell it.

Crack it or send for reholder/regrade-- those old NGC holders (with paper inserts) are not very protective, coins change in them.

Thanks for your comments all! I'm now more undecided than before.

I remember a thread (which of course I can't find now) which mentioned this slab type and indicated that they sell for a premium, presumably to someone who WANTS this slab type. It is a nice coin and would look great in my album, but as mentioned, it is a common date. The ideal situation would be to sell the slabbed coin for a premium and buy a nice, raw coin with the proceeds. And pocket the difference of course.
