Fleer Ripken Rookie unopened pack opinions

Hey folks.. first post here, reading the boards for a few months now. This week I just won a 3 box lot of 1983 fleer cello packs on ebay and received them today. I opened one box got a ripken and few good star cards. The Ripken looks like a sure 8 possible 9. Not sure what I was going to do with the other two boxes, I started looking at the front and backs of the packs. I was shocked to see a Ripken rookie on the back of one of the packs. What do you think is my best option to do with the pack, if I decide to sell it?

A. Open the pack and send the ripken for grading.
b. Get the pack graded, I hear psa will grade packs this year.
c. Or just sell the pack as is?

thanks for you help. John

  • Well if they are from 1983 that isn't his rookie. His rookie was in the 1982 set.

    Hi John

    First off - Welcome!

And congratulations on a good cello box rip!!!

Do you have scanning capability? Would like to see the Ripken you pulled. And the cello.

On the cello with the Ripken...of course a star on the back is not worth as much as on the front where the obverse is showing.

I assume you are seeing the back of the Ripken card.

I'm not sure, but I don't think Ripken cards are hot right now - tho a cello with his card is a nice find.

I think it would look good in a PSA or GAI pack holder with the Ripken star card contained within.

I didn't notice the year? Is the box 83 or 82?

    Good luck
    And don't be a stranger!

Not sure how you scanned these but they are very small and if I were to "resize" them larger...they are just a blur.

These files are small enough that you could have first attached them to CU and then posted them.

    What scanner do you have?

  • I would definitely keep the pack sealed. Not something you see everyday.
  • yeah.. i resized the photos to be smaller because they kept telling me they were to big to post up. Thanks for posting though mike.. anyone interested in me rescanning them again? If mike is willing to post image

If you have an HP scanner.

I scan them at 200 - then I crop the pic and press OK - then the pic pops up again under photo and imaging - at that point, I check the properties - try to keep the WIDTH at about 500 pixels.
So if the pic is 1000 pixels wide - I go to the bar that has "resize" and try to change the width accordingly.

If this is not making any sense - just scan - don't worry about the size and I'll "resize" them for you.
