1942/1-d Rip, Ripped, or fair price?(heard from NCS)

I paid $750 for this today, and just wondered how I did. The gunk on it appears to be dirt, which turned green in acetone. I was also wondering what it might grade and if I should send it to NCS.
If I was half as smart as I am dumb Iwould be a genious

NCS is where you should go if ya can't remove the stuff.
That is a rare and collecable specimen, and well worth the money.

Leave it in the acetone as long as needed with the occasional swirl around. Seal it in a jar with the acetone.
If you're lucky you may still get an MS grade out of it.
I'd say you got a deal.
I'd have jumped at it at that price, even with the gunk.

....but I want a discount ! Now it's got two errors. One from the mint, another from the owner
why dip it ? leave it with it's gunk and crud and crap on it.... pass it around the mechanic's shop for a few days and let it be what it is without the doctoring....sheesh you guys !

Other than that nice coin!

<< <i>I sent it yo NCS today. It was getting too hard to resist trying my own methods. Out of sight out of mind. Thanks to everyone here for the advice. >>
Well that's much safer.... it's an awesome coin, isn't it ? I got my first one when I was thirteen in change while collecting for the Omaha World Herald (around 1968) ... it's long been gone
I still like the 'passing it around the mechanics shop' idea ...natural circulating condition (black gunk all in the devices, legends , hair.... you know that look !
I also sent an 1894 Morgan(thought it was XFish) came back as a circulated proof. Not a good day for me.
what will they call it after it's all dirty ? IMPROPERLY HANDLED ?
You have taken a rare and collectable coin...and made
the decision to conserve it.
I would do that...any time...any day.
It will survive us and be enjoyed by future collectors.
Nothing, in my opinion, is more noble.
