I enjoy fishing, but not on TV. I am surprised by the popularity of bass fishing because they aren't exactly the most challenging species to catch. I guess that is what makes it work for television, lots of action, guaranteed. It seems that lately the professional side of the 'sport' is trying to mirror NASCAR: younger competitors, more drama, and lots of commercialism.

Is this getting to be like NASCAR and golf?? There are guys who invest large bucks going to these tournaments with the hope of coming away with a payday. I saw a segment on ESPN today about a guy who was disqualified from a fishing tournament because he was pissed off and kicked the crap out of the safety lights on his boat. They then interviewed him - ala a John McInroe - and it appreared to be a big deal!!!!!!!!

Well we had a Tourney of our own on Lake Bemidji today, last year I won a $400 Sonar for the 17th place with a .456 lb Walleye. They randomly place good prizes here and there. This year I placed 6th with a stinkyole' Tulibee at 1.32 lbs. Prize was a Clam 2000 Portable fishouse, they are about $250. Just thought I'd brag image

Oh yeah its spose to be -18ºF tonight so this wasnt in no boat!

I think there is a fine line between what is technically a "sport" and a "game". Really, they are both the same thing except for the level of physical activity. Monopoly and a football game have the same objective, they just differ on the way to achieve it. So, I feel they are really all one in the same.
