Coin Websites.

I am not trying to plug anythign or advertise anything by starting this thread.

I am just curious what everyone looks for when going to a dealers website? Also, how important is it to you that a dealer accepts credit cards?

    HIGH QUALITY PHOTOS.

No pics and you don't get my money...usually.

I look for bust half dimes with good photos. Barring good photos, I look for bust half dimes properly attributed. Typically I find either good photos or proper attribution, but not both.

I like a "shopping cart" and am more likely to buy when one is available.
If I can't use a credit card (preferred), I would like to be able to use paypal.
I will use a check if that's the only alternative.
I have to trust that a site offers "real time" inventory. Too often I have purchased something (and paid for it) only to learn later that it was sold weeks ago!
  • I asked this question before and tried to model our website off of the responses. It was basically Great Pictures, Detailed Descriptions, and Ability to Contact The Dealer Easily.

  • Good large pictures and a site that updates all new purchases. Credit cards(checkcard) and paypal is a plus for me.
  • Here's one thing I don't like. Clicking on a dealer's website and it goes to nothing but what they have listed on eBay.

Good pictures, a very easy checkout procedure (ala DLRC), and a way to contact the dealer if you have specific questions.

I am a web developer and believe me I have seen some cruddy (to be kind) websites and some really decent ones too! Things that I notice on coin and other sites:

Complete lack of any meaningful content at times...just a couple of pages and a link to an eBay store.
Series links that lead to pages that say "Nothing in Inventory" as they waste time and bandwith (gotta think of the dial-uppers!)
Inventory listings that say 'Sold!'...Glad ya sold it but does nothing for me now. All inventory listings should be current.
Poor navigation, ie: pages are not tied together well.
Improper page/site layout that causes excessive scrolling or having to move the page around to read or find everything.
Bad font/contrast usage....magenta and bright green on a black background or light yellow on a white backgroud.

I could go on but hey...gotta get back to work!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

I like web sites with good search functions. DLRC has the best search function I have used, so far. It allows the user to search for particular grades, grading companies, costs, etc. Also, like everyone else has mentioned, pictures are of the utmost importance unless you have a prior relationship with the dealer.
