Modern Coins Can Be Cool - Part 2

Here is a 1968 10 Lirot from Israel, it was issued to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the creation of the nation of Israel. I love the view of ancient Jerusalem on the obverse.

I think one of the most interesting and historic series are the Israeli commemorative of the 1960s whether silver or CN. The earlier 5 Lirot are struck on "big and fat" flans and have a bit of "heft" when you pick them up. This series seems to have lost much of its collector support and at these prices seem to be good buys so long as you avoid the damage many suffered as a result of PVC used in the original packaging.

Very Cool! Especially now that I can see the pictures--they were afflicted with red-x-itis at work.

Cool Design. In addition to the comments already made, it should be noted that the 4-pillared temple on the obverse is another "ancient revival" design - the prototypes were the shekels and tetradrachms issued during the second Jewish Revolt, c. 133 AD.
