I'm pretty sure its good, although I think it is probably a die set-up piece or die trial of some kind, rather than an error (both pieces were the product of the Heaton Mint, and the first 10C pieces were struck there in 1866). NGC called it an error and put it in an MS61BN holder.

Are there any known die struck fakes of the 10 centesimi?

According to Michael Gouby, the Heaton Mint did produce British bronze coinage prior to 1874 (when the "H" appeared below the date), namely pennies and farthings in late 1860 and early 1861. It is quite conceivable that it's real.

    What a find.

Is yours the latest edition? They seem to say on the website that there is a special section in the new edition on the overstrike pictured there.

By the way, you should contact Michael about this. I think he might be very interested - especially since yours has a different angle between Victoria and the centissimi strike. Not unique after all, but no doubt excessively rare!

I sent out an email to him as soon as I found the website.

  • Now that is sweet! I didn't used to have any interest in errors, mis-strikes, clips or the like until I saw that coin. This is something I could learn to love on a real quick like basis!
I am off to do a little research on the subject of my own now. Thanks for the photos!
