78t bkb vending results...argh

not very good results from the 78t bkb vending. i had several graded just because of who they were (i.e. maravich, erving). this is kind of what i expected as well. the kareems i pulled were all too OC to submit.

If they are so tough the SMR prices don't reflect it!

Are there many psa collectors working on this particular set?

I don't know jack about basketball card world, so don't take my comments as surl or contempt ld..

I have never purchased a single pack of hockey or basketball cards in my life.... sigh

julen, i have no idea on this. i've always liked the 78 set for some unknown reason.

I have a bunch I picked up in a box years ago - and they're probably all 5s compared to what you guys have.

But, in a binder - the set looks great!

Yeah, bought a box from BBC Exchange when David posted his thoughts on his box. It was fun, and (not to sound like a whiner) but my grades were tough.

same here on the 78 vending. when david posted his, i got pumped. it was fun regardless. did david have any of his graded?

Yes he did grade his - David's post a couple of days ago indicated (30) 9's and (12) 8's!

Mike and LD:

Sorry about the tough grading on the cards. I was very surprised by the condition of my box and the cards. Half the cards from the box had centering issues. However, the other half was very good. As Mike stated I sent in 42 cards. My submission was the "314" series. Since the corners and edges on almost all of the cards were near perfect, the box could have been in the center of the case. I also had similiar luck with 2 1979 Topps vending boxes. However, I bought 2 vending boxes each of 1983 Topps, 1981 Topps and 1980 Topps which were horrible. I actually threw away all of the cards from those boxes except for 5 cards from 1980 I submitted for grading. Every one of the cards from 1981 and 1983 were diamond cuts. I pulled three Hendersons from the 1980 boxes. I received 2 (9s) and 1 (8). However, I cannot sell one of the 9's as a "9" because of obvious flaws on the borders. I submitted it thinking it might pull a 7. This was a big miss by PSA.

As far as the 1978 set goes, it is deceptively tough to build in mint condition. The quality control was lacking.

I have to sub my 1979-80 basketball cards that I got out of a vending box. At first glance they looked great, centering was not an issue but I don't think any of the stars would grade over an 8. It was disappointing.
