It's a head-on shot of the butt end of my axe handle. I *knew* I heard something out in the shed. If you go back in there again, I'm gonna come out!

Ever see that Saturday Night Live Episode that is probably 25 years old with Steve Martin as the guest host? At or near the end, there is a skit with only him looking into the camera, looking only as Steve Martin can look, saying repeatedly in a southern accent... "what the hell is that?"... "what the hell is that?" I obviously need to keep my day job, but MrEureka... exactly, what the hell is that? image

It's the reverse of a token/medal that is only struck with one engraved die. We can't know the grade until you show us the other side.

That is a pattern that was struck on only one side. I have no idea which one, so I'll guess a random J-1421.

You got that into a 65 holder? You rascal!

I liked it better when it was raw, in my hand, with another similar thing keeping it company.

Who needs 2 pretty sides when you have 1 really pretty one?

Ha! Found it. So as not to spoil it for the others, a second specimen is thought to exist, and it's from 1911.

It's the unstruck side of an uniface electrotype made by James Fraser for a 1911 nickel.

    And the other side:
