1921 Peace question

Help me out here. Can anyone tell my why most of the 1921 Peace dollars out there are are AU or worse? Most show signs of heavy wear and are often clearly cleaned. Is it becasue of the "high relief" strike? Is it worth puying a raw one on ebay? Im guessing most of the good ones have been cleaned.

You can find a good uncirculated one if you look around a little. I would recomend that if you are not familiar with grading these coins that you buy a certified one from one of the three top tier grading services. Welcome to the boards.

Problem free circulated 1921 Peace Dollars are few and far between. That being said, they are out there...just be patient and keep looking. You'll find one.
  • Since the high relief didn't usually fill completely even MS coins can look circulated and with just a little wear can look lihe XF's if you aren't familiar with the striking characteristics.

I bought an ANACS AU58 off eBay from a seller with a no-return policy. The Coin was a very ugly wizzed POS!

    Don't repeat my mistake!image
  • The high relief of the coin makes it wasy to "rub" out problems without noticing it that much.......
