Are all 1864 pointed bust cents... type L?

My question.... I know that all 1864L cents have the pointed bust on the Indian..... but is it equally true that all 1864 cents with the pointed bust are type L? even though the 'L' cannot be seen on lower grade specimens? Thanks for any info....

Yes. That's how the variety can be positively identified even if the "L" is worn smooth.

The 1864-L differs from the 1860-1864 No L in many ways: The pointed bust, addition of the L and sharper feathers. It is a master die that was used until 1886. All hubs and dies made from this master die are the same. They also have extra outlines aroung the legend, and portrait, although this feature will dissaprear if the die was not sunk deep enough or the dioe was polished down.
