Long time collector, but new to the message boards

I wanted to introduce myself to those of you on the message boards. My name is Tim Thompson and I am cincyfan01 on the set registry. The primary focus of my collection is on Cincinnati Reds cards and memorabilia. I started collecting baseball cards as a kid in 1976 (a good year to become a Reds fan!) My main set registry sets are my 1976 Topps and 1976 Kelloggs sets. Dave Concepcion was my favorite player, thus I am putting together a Dave Concepcion master set.

I just discovered the forums a few weeks ago. I have enjoyed quite a few of the threads. It is amazing to see all the knowledge of cards out there. I have also enjoyed viewing the post sharing some of your cards. I enjoy the hobby the most when you can share in the passion (or addiction!) of adding cards to your collection!

Welcome to the boards! My first year collecting was 1976 also but I was a Yankee guy! Regardless the Reds and Yankee cards from 76 are some of the best cards produced! Now show us a picture of the 76 Brett 9 you have.

  • Thanks for the great welcome!

Jackstraw - I will try to post the Brett card for you soon. I am thinking about adding some of the scans to the set registry anyway!

Frankhardy - We may not win the division this year, but with the new ownership and the changes he is making - you may want to start looking over your shoulder!
  • Welcome- also a reds fan. Went to same high school as Austin Kearns. My grandfather used to scout for the Reds. Lifelong fan. You came to the right place- lots of knowledgable and helpful people around here. Good luck on your collecting endeavors.

Welcome from a former Reds fan. I am sorry you have had to endure what has happened to that once proud franchise.

Welcome Tim. You will learn a lot here. I know I have.

And if you want opinions and advice, this is a great forum for that.
  • I am doing the Golden Press set and just started a 1961 Fleer Set as well. My primary focus is on my 76 set, but over time want to complete my 61's. I like the color images on the Golden Press and it is a set that doesn't have hundreds of cards in it like my 76 Topp set!

I was concerned a week ago, until I heard the news about Scott Rolen. Rolen said his shoulder is the best it has been in four years. My 10+ games prediction is based on a healthy Rolen. If Rolen isn't healthy or doesn't produce, then it will be a dog fight.

  • I love my Reds, but our pitching has to be a lot better before you have to worry too much about us.
  • Tim,

I've been waiting to see your name pop up here...I knew it was just a matter of time!! lol

I see you've been giving Bob a runfor his $$$ on the 76's set again huh...

Welcome aboard....you'll find more than your heart can handle here!!

  • 5Stat - I don't have any dillusions about overtaking Bob's #1 spot in the registry, but I don't mind locking up the second spot! By the way - thanks for some of the great cards I have gotten from you for my set.

    Hi Tim

    And welcome!

Better words could not have been spoken...

Not only do I learn everyday here but I so much enjoy sharing my stuff and seeing others collections.

In terms of non-private forums, this is the best place for collectors of all kinds - modern and vintage coexist in harmony - occasional debates notwithstanding.

So take off your shoes and stay a while - don't be a stranger!

    Hi Tim!

Welcome! I've watched you build a "world class" 1976 Topps PSA Registry Set these past few years. With DJ's (Donnie's) help, we will be almost "neck to neck" with our two registry sets. Congrats!

I've "learned a ton" about card collecting on these threads over the past year, and I'm sure I'll "learn tons more" in the years to come!

To the board members here: Tim is a good dude and an asset to our hobby!

edit: Tim, congrats on winning the 1976 Topps Tom Seaver PSA 10. A true monster card! ...Just maybe the nicest looking Seaver card on the Planet? (You know I "cut u some slack" on "Tom Terrific" LOL!). P.S. Your two high end PSA 1915 Heinie Groh cards you posted on the "mail call" thread, are simply "off the charts"!... You are a true Cincy fan!
