Canada plans color breast cancer awareness coin

OTTAWA -- The Royal Canadian Mint is planning another foray into the business of producing coloured coins for general circulation.

The mint is planning its second coloured circulation coin for the fall that will mark national breast cancer awareness month in October. The 25-cent piece will feature four breast-cancer ribbons on one side, with the centre ribbon coloured pink.

The mint declined to provide any information on the new coin.

The last time the mint added a splash of colour to a circulating coin -- the red poppy quarter distributed in fall 2004 -- technical glitches plagued the production runs and its president was hauled before a House of Commons committee.

I'm glad it's not a dollar coin. They're making too many dollar coins as it is.
