New to here, and coins, here's what brought me here...

Hey there, well recently I was looking at some old coins my mom had, and she noticed how much i was interested in them. So she says she has more that here grandmother gave her (apparantly her grandmother was a major coin collector). I ask her to take them out, and she brings out a shoebox worth of coins in bags, medicine containers, and other assorted containers. I quickly start going through everything, and then she brings out another shoebox full of coin books (the ones filled with coins), proof sets, and tons of other collertors stuff. Just by looking at a box I can tell its well over 200 coins.

So over the past week, Ive been looking at the coins, catalogueing them and going over this whole site finding out eveything I can. Heres a little amount I can remember, the most significant stuff I can remember:
-7 Morgan Dollars- 1886, 1889, 1889, 1890, 1890, 1902, 1921
-Tons of Kennedy half dollars from 1964, most in great condition, maybe I'll say the amount later
-Around 70 1976 Bicentennial quarters

And to top it off heres a pic of all the half dollars I have, these include the 1964 Kennedys (in the brown rolls), a few Franklins, and plenty of Walking Liberty's stacked up.

Sorry it's a crappy picture, due to the bad lighting.

After I finish writing everything down, maybe I'll post part of the list. I look forward to visiting these boards frequently.

Enough said about the welcome part. Now let the addiction begin.
  • Ah, just the fact that he/she tore into the coinstells me that they have a natural love of coins. Hang on and enjoy yourself.

  • I (he) love old things. I love old cars mostly, so that probably explains why I like this stuff so much.

I just need a job now so I can start affording more parts for my car and coins to make my own collection (the coins are still my moms, but I treat them like my own heheh).

  • Welcome,

Kennedy Halves? How old is your mother's grandmother?
  • Her grandmother is a bit over 90..maybe 92. Judging by how she would collect somewhat in bulk of certain things, she knew her coins well. In one of the boxes was a few rolls of Kennedy half dollars, so there are about sixty two 1964 Kennedy half dollars, more than half in great condition. Most of these coins have been from box to box since the mid '70s, so no coins have toning and most retained their luster and deatil. The coin albums are somewhat different, most of the coins are worn badly, some you can't see the date so I can't tell if they're even in the right slot. There are a few 1909 Pennies, they all look to be non-VBD, but one really looks like there in something where the VBD is supposed to be. I just need something better to look closer at the penny.

Heres a 1902 Morgan I found, the picture doesn't show all of the detail, but you can tell by how clean it is (its never been cleaned) that it still has all of its details. I have about 5 other Morgan dollars in this condition or better, and then another Morgan with good detail but bad luster all greyish etc.

I'll post a pick of the Kennedys in a bit...

    I'm more a GM. Chevy, Pontiac (I own a '68 Tempest, my dad owns a '78 Vette).

Heres a pic of all the half dollars that I found. Everything laid out (the first 62 of em) are 1964 Kennedy half dollars. Everything else in the laid roll is Kennedys past 1964.

Say, fairlaneman, is that dime in your avatar embeded in some type of vinyl? I really wanna get a 1968 coin in my car somehow. One guy I talked to said he got a dime pressed (embeded, whatever) into the shifter knob.
