    Not bad for 81Ts IMO Julen.

    When they come in, I would really like to see some of those 9s!

    Especially the Raines and the Smith.

    zef, yes they were.

    these cards are insanely tough to find gem mint. goofy purple and maroon borders, some of the ugliest color combinations ever... i still like the set.

    quick turnaround though.

    1981's are pretty tough in my experience. I went through a few boxes last summer and came up with a stack of nice looking cards to grade. Upon further review I narrowed the stack down from 50 to about 5 and didn't get any 10's. I'll agree with Julen that they are insanely hard to find in gem mint.

    I have more 1981's in my collection than anything else. Mainly due to the fact that I can scratch my itch to crack some unopened stuff for dirt cheap. I will go through stacks and stacks of cards to find something with a chance at a 9, much less a 10. I have never gotten a star card that I thought was near 10 quality.

    That's one busy grader.

    Is it possible that the 313/314 certs really just show that the submission came from a monthly special? I can't remember seeing a "regular" submission that had those certification numbers.

    edited to add: I'm assuming these cards were submitted under the current modern special.

    SDavid, good question and I bet we have covered this topic b4 on this board, but I can't recall the exact thread.

    i had reasonably good luck w/ '80 topps sub special and that was w/ 314- cert #'s.

    grader of death.... don't think so, 1981 topps being cards that get graded to death, yes!

    even though there were no 10s, you still have some nice MINT cards. you planning to sell a "lot" of them like your 80s?

    i'm hoping for some fast turnaround as well. tennesseebanker mentioned that normally within 2 days of the funds being withdrawn from the bank, he sees his submission come thru. well, mine debit was posted yesterday so i'm hoping by the end of the week to hear something.

    congrats on the quick turnaround and nice grades.

    ld, i have thought about selling some of the 9's from both years, but demand for these 2 years is pretty puzzling to me.

    i have noticed sellers of these 2 years usually start bidding out for single cards at bet/ $4.99-$10.99, so that would have to b a consideration versus starting bidding off at $.99.

    To me this means the demand is pretty weak for these 2 years, so this is a big reason i most likely won't try to sell very many.

    I sold about 20 extra psa 7 '69 HOF and semi-star cards this year and they sold like hot-cakes, too bad demand isn't same for 80's.

    I regress.... at least I havent' found a bird's head in my can of beans: La Preferida Bird in the Beans

    bro, i really thought the stargell, yount and garvey's were nice!!!!

    of all 80's cards on e-bay, doing a search for "1980 topps psa" will yield the FEWEST results.... and the fewest psa 10 cards as well.

    go figure

    Add '81 Donruss to the list of cards that is near impossible to pull a GEM MINT 10. I just busted 3 wax boxes of these suckers and I might have 5 star cards that I would even consider sending in to get graded (hoping for a 9 or 10). Card after card was bad "rough-cut", "diamond -cut", tilted, miscut, print defects, on and on and on. The '81 Fleer seem to be the best results as I busted 3 wax boxes of those at the same time and have numerous cards that have a shot at a 10.

    Nice grades! Are you selling any of those bad boys? I would especially be interested in the Carlton, Lynn, and Garvey.

    Ouch on that Parker, probably a missed wrinkle. I sent in an 1981 Schmidt that I thought was a 10 candidate....came back a 6 due to a missed wrinkle.

    Per Carol, the certification numbers have nothing to do with the grader. They are assigned before the cards enter the grading phase. She said Joe O. explains this process in the PSA video that can be found on this site.

    Nice work there! I have many copies of each 81 AS card including PSA 9 Brett, Schmidt, Sutter, Gossage, Fisk, etc. I am not sure what the tough cards are but if anyone needs something specific, I don't mind looking. Bobby
