How would this card cross over

1965 Joe Namath

Do you think it would get an OC qualifier from PSA?

Not sure Czar... too pretty of a card to risk it. Centering is close... if it gets an OC qualifier, that would really hurt it. I'm not a big fan of the SGC holders, it would be much better in a PSA slab!

I would say it would get an oc. Of course thats just my opinion. Maybe someone that has more experience submitting this issue can tell you better.
Good luck if you do decide to buy it.

  • I measured 36/64 L/R and that's well within the tolerance of 70/30 to 75/25 for an unqualified 7. Also the card is not "tilted", which helps it's grade.

I think it looks like a sweet card with the black background!

thanks for the input everyone. i was outbid today and the next bid with juice brings it $1086. even though that card has a lot of mystique with namath, the color and being a tall boy having it tagged with a o/c would be horrendous.

i know a lot people have opinions about other grading companies. some companies like gem mint are easy targets. i don't see a lot about sgc. i don't think mastro would ever list a gem mint graded card, but what is the history and problems with sgc.
  • I think anyone would be crazy to break that card out of the SGC slab. The yellow background is enhanced by the black insert and the fact that it is slightly OC is hardly noticeable.

Grade not withstanding, which one has greater eye appeal?

if a person could get more dollars for the same card in a psa 7 slab would it not be advantagious then?

    Good for you.
  • Steve - I suppose that's correct, if money is what is driving you to change slabs. I personally hate what these price guides have done to the hobby so market value is never an issue for me. With that said, I still think an SGC holder would bring more money with that card due to the colors and the superior way the black insert presents the card.
