Strange submission results....

........I openly state that I can no longer grade roosies........

The below 20 coins were all color coins, with 10 being really nice roosies. On the plus side, I picked the exact grade for every non-roosie -- yes, I really did pick 10 for 10 in advance -- a first ever!!!!!

On the minus side, I got HAMMERED on the roosies, which is my series!!!!! ......I sent 10 super coins --- take a look -- 66, 66, 66, 66, 66, etc.... even a 65!!!!

Well, maybe I was wrong ten times in a row...I cannot think of any other alternative....can anyone else fathom why this occurred???

Yes, Nick...these are the roosies you (and Craig) said to send, so you went "0" fer 10 like I did!!!!

On the plus side, anytime you can submit 20 toners to PCGS and come away without a single bodybag you've done damned well.

    I agree 100%....

sounds like they were tough on the Roosies, but no BB's is good...

You expected the 41-S quarter to grade 58 and you still sent it in?

I take it they were supposed to be 67's or better. I for one can't tell much difference between a 66 and a 67. I guess it depends on the price jump between the grades that makes them grade tighter or not.

I would be interested in the 62-D in 66 NB if you want to sell it. That's pretty much my grade range for roosies.

The last group of four Roosevelts I sent I got hammered. I think they go tougher, but they would argue they haven't changed their standard, so you must need new glasses or smoething.

You've got that backwards. It's the grading style that causes the price jump.

Congratulations! I have never had a coin I submitted to PCGS ever come back as high as MS-65. Almost all the coins I submit come back MS-64 and lower. Mostly Seated Liberty coins and Indians, but still...

I would be very, very happy to make a MS-65 coin. An MS-66 coin is what wet dreams are made of.

    Congratulations!!

How is this for a creative idea I got from

the local car wash. You send a coin in for grading

with a punch card. On the 10th punch, you get an

automatic one point upgrade on the coin. This does not

apply to crack outs nor to coins in excess of 100 dollars

    retail value.

    Dimeman,
Could you explain to me why "price" has something to do with grade. I've heard this before and no has been able to provide a clear understanding. I guess it depends on who's submitting and if PCGS wants them to make any money.

Bill, told you so. But did you listen??????

Nick and I haven't been submitting Rosy's to PCGS for this reason. But, you had to find out the hard way didn't you? Now you have some pretty 66's to show for it!

The last raw Rosy I sent to PCGS was a squeeky clean 1963-P that I felt was a solid MS67. Came back in a MS65 holder! I jokingly call the coin a MS67 trapped in a MS65 holder! Its on ebay now at 99 cents...ebay Link

    Bill,
You have to many coins! By the way, I'll break down and buy some of those MS66's and take em off your hands. You can't have them sitting around the 67's and 68's you have. They may infect your set.

    4 09740954 1961 10C USA PR65 How about this one whats it worth ?

I had a set 1946 - 1964 complete all PCGS ms 66 a lot in rattlers I sold it for $850 at FUN thats less than 20 per coin average most had nice color. I bought it about a year ago started asking $1000. kept lowering the price until it sold for the same I paid.

    What is the wholesale value of 1950 s & 1951 s in ms 67 ?

Bill, Bill, Bill...How many times have I told you. You only send Roosies to PCGS via NGC first. I hope you
know that almost all those NGC 68's you have would probably only grade 66 at PCGS....image
You better pack them all up and send them my way. I'll pay you 67 money for them....image

Yes, Nick...these are the roosies you (and Craig) said to send, so you went "0" fer 10 like I did!!!!

Bill, I believe Craig and I said to send them to NGC first.

They have graders who won't give out an ms67 to any such coin even if it's perfect. My expertise is Lincolns...

    One bulk submission 200 coins, 119 coins grade ms66, 0 ms67.
next one also 200 coins.... 117 coins grade ms66, 19 coins grade ms67 (1 pop 4, all below pop 33)
    next one 100 coins... 13 coins grade ms66, 1 ms67

The quality was IDENTICAL in these 3 submissions. It's just whoever is doing the grading that day. It really really stinks, doesn't it. image

Well the good news is even 66's are bringing decent money in this color-driven market.
