Wichita Coin Show Picks

Yesterday I made the drive to Wichita for the cessna coin show. I thought the turn out was pretty good, mostly US dealers, but I found a few pieces.

1811 Great Britain 3 Shillings Bank Token. The scan didn't really capture the toning very well. In hand this coin is far more beautiful.

1799 Great Britain Half Penny. Again, the toning isn't captured very good. The reverse, in particular, has a brilliant blue tone.

1877 Australia Sovereign

1749 Mexico 2 Reales - this is my first salvage coin, but it is unattributed, which I guess just sort of makes it a corroded coin

1774 Mexico 2 Reales

1789 Mexico 2 Reales with counterstamp initials TJR

1787 Bolivia 2 Reales - I just liked the wear pattern and the toning on this one

1794 Peru 2 Reales

1821 Guatemala 4 reales. unfortunate about the hole, because without it, I think this would be a VF coin - but for under 20 bucks, I couldn't pass up a Guatemalan 4 reales.

1801 Spain 2 Reales

  • hmmm.. I didn't notice that the half penny scan was so dirty.

I'll have to reimage that one. That line must be a scan issue - it isn't on the coin.

You have better shows in Wichita than we have here in the Twin Cities, that's all I can say.

    Well, that and congrats!!

  • All the 2 reales (except for the one from spain and the salvage piece) I bought from another collector that was selling them off at the tables. After he was turned away, I tracked him down and bought those and 4 or 5 other pieces for 70 bucks, which was all I had left in my pocket. I wish I had more, because he had lots of nice circulated pieces in his box. I would have bought twice as many if I had the money left.
