1829 Choir of York Minster Fire Commem Medal

BHM 1360 White Medal by Hardy Rated "R" Rare.
OBV. "YORK / MINSTER / WAS COMMENCED 1171 /COMPLETED 1377/ THE CHOIR OF THIS MAGNIFICENT EDIFICE/ DESTROYED BY /AN INCENDARY FEB./ 2ND 1829.
REV. THE CHOIR OF YORK MINSTER/ DESTROYED BY FIRE/ FEB 2ND 1829
The Minster was set on fire by Jonathan Martin, a lunatic. The roof of the Choir and internal fittings were destroyed. The Damage being estimated at 60,000 Pounds. It was repaired between 1829 and 1832 under the direction of Sir Robert Smirke. (exerpt from BHM by L. Brown)

For the age of this medal and the composition, it is remarkably well taken care of. I have seen newer White metal pieces that are completely black from corrosion and this one has one small spot.
