United States Mint to honor the
Presidents of the United States

Beginning in 2007, the United States Mint will strike and issue new $1 coins to honor the

Presidents of the United States. Mandated by Public Law 109-145, the coins will be issued at

the rate of four per year, in the order in which they served. The Presidential $1 coins will

carry new Presidential portraits on their obverse, or heads, side and will feature an image

of the Statue of Liberty on their reverse, or tails, side.

Kinda weird having the Statue of Liberty on the coins commemorative President's that were alive when the thing didn't even exist. Are they going to be golden like the Sac?

They have the same size, look and content as the Sac dollars as stated above.

I think that's a missed opportunity. I think the reverse should feature some aspect of that President's term in office. The mint could've made an entire history lesson in the palm of your hand. Instead, we just have another parade of dead presidents.

That's an interesting idea. Nixon's could feature a new motto "I'm no crook". Clinton's could be "I like the ladies". Any others?

It's just a money making opportunity for the Mint. Same as the $10 gold coins of the corresponding First ladies. How many of you are going to get the album to put those gold coins in??

I predict this will be a big success, but not the juggernaut that is the Statehood Quarters Program. Personally would have liked it to be a $2 coin.

I do think it's states quarters part two. I think they will be quite popular, esp. the more revered presidents (and first ladies).

Not only is the mintage low, but how does the mint determine the order the coins served in??

this coin only popular with collector , not to public. because size and weight of the coin. have you ever try to carry $5 or more of Sac in ur pocket ? it's not fell comfortable at all.

and other thing. it doesn't look right when observe is president and reverse is statue of Liberty. picture of human on both size.
same as 2006 platinium coin, it's look nice, but the picture of women on both side aren't right.

I find having a few dollar coins in my pocket to be no problem at all. They are small and light enough to not be a burden. Plus, they are easier to handle the paper, especially with vending machines.
