New Zealand Question

Hi,

My dad was in the Navy and used to fly down to the Antartica in the '60's and spent a lot of time in New Zealand 'cause the supply base was there and he put together a collection of New Zealand coins during his stay overs. These are mostly pre decimal and most of the Whitmans are complete (3p, 6p etc.). I would like to learn more about them (I focus mainly on US coins) and was wondering if anyone could recommend a book or website that would have some more info, history, values, etc. He last stopped going there in the mid-60's and that is about when he moved on to US sets...

Thanks!

Your best bet is a Krause catalogue. You might be able to find one at your local public library.

The Coins of British Oceania by Robert L. Clarke 1965 has some basic information.

You may also want to contact Martin Purdy at the RNSNZ. The society has produced many publications about NZ coinage over the years and may have some back issues available for sale.
